A delivery report is defined in RFC 1891. Without getting too much into RFCs, a read receipt is not a delivery report. Seeing how many work with law firms in this sub, I know the attorneys I deal with do not want read receipts ever going back to the sender. While you are reading that you may notice the first sentence which mentions how editing the Remote Domain 'Do not send delivery reports' will NOT block read receipts from entering/leaving your org (told you we'd come back to that). "Read Receipt Removal"ĥ) Apply this rule if- "The recipient is." and select if you want to do it by individuals you want to add, groups, or internalĦ) Do the following- "Modify the message properties" ,"remove a message header", and enter Disposition-Notification-To This will ensure they get entirely stripped from the email as they come in.ģ) Create a new rule under "rules" and select "Modify messages."Ĥ) Name it appropriately, ex. It automatically send the read receipt as soon and you open the email.īlock them by creating a mail flow rule in Exchange. You also get no notification about them when you open them on a mobile device. I've not looked at the Outlook app, but I do know that there are no settings on the default email apps that are on Androids and iPhones that allow you to block read receipts. As a workaround for emails that you do not would like Read Receipt, maybe you could edit and send them using web mail client, though indeed inconvenient. Have you observed emails from your mobile device and wondered if it may have responded to a read receipt? I'll let you know, it does this unless you've set the proper rules to strip it out. Not quite sure why this option would delay working in your organization but we indeed could not modify those settings in Outlook if you still keep your GPO settings. Some think that when they turn read receipts off in Outlook that it stops all read receipts from sending. In case you've never noticed this, a read receipt will still get sent back if you open an email through a mobile device.
